Small 4to, mm. 195x150, pp 16, 276. with a curious opening woodcut depicting the rise to a tower with the aid of a ladder, and numerous woodcut figures inserted in the margins of the text, as well as many examples of arithmetic calculation always shown in the margins. Half 18th century leather binding. Hand-written notes by contemporary hand on title page, and some contemporary marginal annotations.

Condition Report

Very well known text of mercantile arithmetic, practical geometry and elementary algebra, first appeared in Venice in 1526, preceded in 1517 by the Libro de Abaco, and reprinted several times with some additions until the end of the seventeenth century, recognizing the practicality also thanks to figures and calculation models placed in the margin of the text. . Smith, Rara Arithmetica, p. 148: "More modern than Borghi, more practical than Paciolo, few books had greater influence on the subsequent teaching of elementary mathematics".
