Condition Report

One of the earliest, if not the earliest book entirely devoted to the making and the qualities of "any kind of ink". The author, Pietro Maria Canepari, or Caneparius, or Canepario, was professor at the University of Venice, teaching medicine. The work was first published in Venice in 1619, and reprinted in 1660 in London (and probably influential with Robert Boyle, who saw his own work on inks published in 1663). This Rotterdam edition seems to be the third; and is of a larger size than the London edition. All are rare. As it includes the description and analysis of several minerals, it may be listed under mineralogy. Brunet, 30177. The lot is offered with a validexport license.
