Contemporary red Moroccan Armorial binding, ornate and linear frames on the covers with fleurons at the corners, in the middle of the covers, within a cartouche surrounded by DPCP initials, a Crucifix on the front cover, emblem on back cover, phytomorphic ornaments on the ribbed spine, goffered edges, all in gold. Traces of clips. Vol. I: Leaves 34 not numbered, including Titlepage and last blank, 411. Vol. II: Titlepage, leaves 412-819, 1 blank. Device of Francesco Bolzetta at the Titlepages with allegory of Peace: Seated woman with olive branch leans on the base of a column with the writing Pax. In a pictorial frame. Ornate initials, round type. Signs of wear to the binding, internally some browning and slight foxing.

Condition Report

Rare Venetian edition in magnificent 17th century binding. The fieldi of the coata of arms s parted per pale: in the sinister, the coat of arms features six pyramid-shaped necks, above three lilies and a Greek cross with flared ends; in the dexter the charge is checquy. The ornate cartouche within which the coat of arms is enclosed, is surrounded by four initials "DPCP". Alonso de Villegas Selvago, Spanish writer, Toledo 1534-1615, in his youth gave in the Comedia Selvagia (1554) a not despicable continuation of the famous Celestina. As a priest he wrote a 5-volume Flos sanctorum, widely read in his day.
