Folio, 316 x 213 mm. Leg. p. pergamena coeva floscia, unghie, titoli mss al dorso e al piatto. Cc. [28], 392 cc. [i.e. 396, Quattro carte non numerate 163 e 164], ritratto inciso di Dante dentro cornice al frontespizio. Sei grandi incisioni nel testo, 96 illustrazioni, iniziali xilografiche e fregi, marca del Sessa in fine. Bell’esemplare in legatura originale.

Celebre edizione detta "del Nasone" o "del Gran naso" a causa del ritratto dantesco apposto al frontespizio. Oltre allo straordinario apparato iconografico, l'edizione si distingue per il rigore della curatela e la ricchezza dei commenti: il curatore Francesco Sansovino ebbe il merito di riunire il commento di Alessandro Vellutello.

Folio. 316 x 213mm. Contemporary limp vellum binding, manuscript titles on the spine and on the cover. [28], 392 leaves. [i.e. 396, four leaves unnumbered between 163 and 164], woodcut portrait of Dante within architectural oval frame on title-page and ninenty six woodcut illustrations in text, woodcut Initials and ornaments, Sessa cat and mouse device at end. Fine copy in his original binding.


Famous edition called "del Nasone" or "del Gran Naso" [of the big nose] because of the Dante portrait affixed to the title page. In addition to the extraordinary iconographic apparatus, the edition stands out for the rigor of the curatorship and the richness of the comments: the curator Francesco Sansovino had the merit of adding the commentary by Alessandro Vellutello.
