Condition Report

The first edition in which the author, a scholar and a philosopher, completely rejected the theory that China was populated by an Egyptian colony. Many writings had credited this theory, but the author, on the contrary, through judicious reflections and a deep examination of the peculiarities of each civilization, shows that the two peoples are far from each other. He makes a very interesting parallels between the condition of women, food, painting and sculpture, the state of chemistry, architecture, religion and government of both peoples. The book is full of teachings about China's history and Chinese costumes. At the time of its publication, this book had a well-deserved success. By Cornelis de Pauw, cf. Barbier, A.A. Ouvrages anonymes, IV, col. 26.
