Binding half leather and percaline, gold titles on cover and spine, unbound copy. 4 parts, 104 engraved plates, comprising: engraved general title, 4 engraved part titles, engraved plate list in pts I and II, engraved subscriber list in pt. I, and 96 engravings after Claude. 3 letter-press (Life of Claude, subscriber list, plate list for III-IV). A total of 104 plates engraved in aquatint, some foxing and spotting, good specimen.

A Very rare work appeared very few times in theauctions. Roethlisberger I, 71. 'have formed the image of Claude for theircentury'

In the first part Lewis tells he has reproducedoriginal drawings by Claude, which were brought from Madrid by Mr. Binda,acquired by Richard Payne Knight, and bequeathed to the British Museum, 'noneof them have been before engraved'. The third part was dedicated to the Duke ofDevonshire; among the subscribers to the work was John Constable. Christie’s”No copies have appeared at auction in over 30 years, and few complete sets havebeen located in institutions.”
