Condition Report

Rare and important illustrated work. This fascinating edition, embellished by very sharply woodcuts, was born from the collaboration of Lorenzo Pignoria with the Paduan printer Tozzi, and is particularly significant for the large number of emblems illustrated. The emblemata of Alciati had an extraordinary spread throughout Europe: it is a collection of allegories and symbols reproduced in xylographs and explained by short texts in Latin verses aimed at a moral teaching. In addition to the cure and annotations of Pignoria, this edition uses the great commentary of the eminent scholar and antiquarian Claude Mignault. BMC Italian 17 Century., P. 13.
