Condition Report

First edition. The work analyzes the inscriptions on the tombstones that adorn the palace of Khorsabad in present-day Iraq, capital of the New Assyrian kingdom under King Sargon II. The peculiarity of these inscriptions was that the large plaster slabs used for the decoration of the building had inscriptions not only on the visible part where bas-reliefs were carved, but also on the back, that is, on the side that was to be eternally obliterated by the masonry. In the text there are 8 pages in which the cuneiform inscriptions with their deciphering are reported. Joachim Menant was a French and Orientalist magistrate. He became famous thanks to his studies on cuneiform inscriptions.
