4to. 215 x 155mm. Legatura in piena pelle, piatti coevi con impressioni a secco, tagli blu, fogli di guardia moderni, entro cofanetto. Carte [28, compreso Frontespizio], 440. Ritratto xilografico di Dante al frontespizio, incisione in legno a piena pagina all’inizio della prima cantica, 98 eleganti xilografie nel testo. Iniziali xilografiche istoriate, marca tipografica in fine. Abile restauro alla legatura, alcune occasioni macchiette e fioriture, qualche sporadico buchetto, buon esemplare. 

Raro e ricercato figurato veneziano del XVI secolo. Questa edizione, con l’importante commento del Landino, riprende quella dello Stagnino del 1512, ove erano state riproposto l’apparato iconografico dell’incunabolo veneziano del 1491. Notre Dame Library: “"This edition of 1536 was printed "ad instantia" (at the request) of Giovanni Giolito, head of the Giolito de' Ferrari family (active 1508-1523) and father of one of the most famous Venetian printers of the Renaissance, Gabriele Giolito. The familial relationship existing between Giovanni Giolito and Bernardino Stagnino is unclear; perhaps they were cousins. In any case, upon Bernardino Stagnino's death a part of his typographical equipment passed to Giovanni Giolitto and was eventually inherited by his son Gabriele…” Craig Kallendorf: “Cristoforo Landino (b. 1424–d. 1498) is one of the more complicated notes in his Oxford Bibliographies The editor, Cristoforo Landino (1424 – 1498) is one of the more complicated figures among the Italian Renaissance humanists. He held the chair in rhetoric and poetics at the Florentine university for forty years, from which he lectured to the sons of the rich and famous and had easy access to the city's Medici rulers and to the scholars and artists who gathered around them. His Dante commentary was presented to the city with great fanfare in a public ceremony in 1481...."
