On February 28, 1881 he was initiated into Masonry in the lodge of the Grand Orient of France Le Temple des amis de l'honneur français but was excluded on September 17 of the same year. On April 14, 1884 he professed to have converted from Judaism to Catholicism, was solemnly received into the Catholic Church and repudiated his previous works.] In the last decade of the century he wrote a series of books and pamphlets in which he denounced Freemasonry and accused the lodges. to worship the devil: he even published a newspaper entitled La France chrétienne anti-maçonnique. In 1887 he was received in audience by Pope Leo XIII. Fesch Col. 779; Caillet, 5559; Dorbon 4781
