Frontispiece engraved on copper by Phillips. 8 plates engraved on copper out text, which of 3 folded and 5 on full page. Printer?s mark on titlepage. Woodcut initials and endpieces, Text on two columns. Signs of wear on cover, some pages with slight brownings. Marginal rip on p. 617. Nice copy. Volume published with Pauli Manutii Antiquitatum Romanarum libri duo, De legibus, & de senatu?starts, with its halftitle, on l. 5I1r.

Condition Report

Beautiful edition. The volume, printed in Utrecht, includes the reimpression of a vast erudite compilation on the ancient Romans, written by I. Rosinus and concerning their religion, law, literature, customs; follow the text of Rosinus, accompanied by notes of Thomas Dempster, Scottish historian and humanist, a work by the sixteenth-century scholar Paolo Manuzio entitled De Legibus, et de Senatu libri II, as well as writings by Andeas Schotti, divided into three parts and concerning aspects of Roman civilization and ancient Urbe. Very beautiful plates in the volume, especially the very interesting map of ancient Rome under the empire of Septimius Severus, engraved by P. Philipps on a drawing by I. Torenvliet; among the other 7 plates: the first 5 with reproductions of coins, tools and other objects used by the Romans, the sixth with a funeral pyre and funeral games, the last with a banquet and gladiatorial games.
