 GATTA, Costantino. La Lucania illustrata per la miracolosa resudazione dall'antica effigie del glorioso principe. S. Michele Arcangiolo nel tempio, eretto su un monte della citta di Sala. Napoli, Michele Abri, 1723.

Large 8vo, 220x165 mm, contemporary full vellum binding. Handwritten title on back. Red sprayed edges. Pp. [12], 152, [8]. Woodcut initials. X4 booklet contains: Annotazioni del medesimo autore alla presente opera. Few pages slightly browned. Good copy.

Condition Report

Rare first edition. Costantino Gatta, 1673-1741, was a writer and doctor. The author wrote the work when, intrigued by an extraordinary event that happened in that year, the exudation of the statue of St. Michael, tried to provide, at least partially, an explanation in physical terms of that event, making it precede it from a detailed historical-geographical information of his native region.
