Condition Report
Rare first edition. An important work on the enterprise, an aristocratic variant of the emblem: a symbolic representation of a purpose, of a desire, of a line of conduct through a motto and a figure that are mutually interpreted. The symbolic of the enterprises became the object of study of writers and clergymen from the middle of the sixteenth century. In these "Ombre Apparenti", the abbot replies polemically to the bishop of Tortona, Paolo Aresi, who had criticized his previous work on the theater of enterprises, claiming to have found "shadows" there. Praz 336, Michel III, 38.
