2 volumes in 8vo; full leather binding, gilt titles and ornaments on the spine, marbled edges.Copper vignette on title pages. Pp. [12], 208 [i.e. 308]; 264. errors numbering, 2 headpieces. First vol. with slight uniform browning, second vol. occasional browning. Good specimen.

Condition Report

The first composite work of the Abbot Rayne, which made him an instant celebrity. Through a story of events that had shaken the Netherlands from the end of Spanish domination, the author promoted "unlimited democracy" (G. Mortier, Diderot and his time), religious tolerance and commercial society, positions they did classify this book among the works "precursors of the French Revolution".
