Condition Report

Extremely rare illustrated flying sheet. This report tells of the sacrilege committed by a Spanish merchant who, lost his mind due to an unfortunate commercial operation, "gave the hand to a Schiopetta, which he had loaded with two chained balls, and ... raised the traitor the cursed hand, unloaded the gun to the Blessed Virgin Mary ”. A miracle then took place: from the "Sacrosanct Image sprang miraculous blood" and at the same time the snake that was under the feet of the Madonna "immediately turning upside down on the neck of the sacrilegious Merchant in the form of a necklace, twisting around him" and tightening his lower lip , "Holding him so tightly that he does not let him go for more than three hours of the day". Two Capuchin Fathers then intervened and, unable to solve the case, they decided to embark the sacrilegious merchant "on a small wood, and from Livorno to Rome, to walk to His Holiness to see if this wretched soul could return to grace of the Most High God ”. The sheet is decorated with the papal coat of arms on the Frontispiece and a suggestive image of the Madonna and Child; the printer, Eusebio Bergamo, was active in Treviso in the first half of the 18th century. No specimen registered in Italian libraries.
