Condition Report

Contemporary copy of the very rare first edition of 1724. The manuscript contains the correct text of the four typos reported in the erroneous post on the last page of the original edition. Il Martello conceived this satirical drama, composed in loose verse, perhaps to exhibit his ability, to mock Count Maffei (Femia is an anagram of Mafei) and had a small number of copies printed in Milan, with the false place of printing of Cagliari: repented, he then decided to withdraw the remaining specimens and destroy them, and this explains the rarity of the first edition. In the subsequent 'Letter on the withdrawal of Femia', Martello declares that one hundred copies of the satirical work had been printed but that, although he had taken steps to prevent its circulation, "thirty manuscript copies passed from hand to hand."
