Versione francese di questa notevole raccolta di saggi del chimico irlandese David Macbride ,1726-1778, apparsi a Londra nel 1764.  "In the essay on fermentation he describes experiments showing that 'the Subtile Gas, as it was termed by the old chemists', i.e. fixed air or carbon dioxide, is 'the grand preserver of animal fluids from putrefaction; attempers acrimony; is a principal agent in nutrition; and, perhaps contributes somewhat to animal heat'.  In the section on fixed air he describes an apparatus of two bottles connected by a curved tube for leading the fixed air generated in one bottle into lime water, alkali solution etc., in the other.  With this apparatus, Macbride showed that putrefying animal matters generated fixed air...  Foods also give out fixed air..."Partington, III/143.  Duveen, p. 375: "This is an important book from the point of vue of chemical ideas of Lavoisier"
