ERASMUS. L'éloge de la folie composé en forme de déclamation par Erasme et traduit par Mr. Gueudeville avec les notes de Gérard Listre & les belles figures de HOLBEIN, nouvelle édition.

In 12mo. Legatura coeva in pelle marmorizzata. Pagine [32, con Occhietto, Antiporta, Titolo in rosso e nero, Tavola con ritratto, prefazioni del traduttore e di Erasmo], 320. Segn.: p4 *8 **4 A-2C8/4 2D4. 75 vignette nel testo e 6 tavole ripiegate fuori testo, tutto inciso in rame. Mancanza sulla cuffia superiore, per il resto bell’esemplare. 

Bella edizione riccamente figurata. Le sei tavole fuori testo e le 75 vignette nel testo sono tratte da disegni originali di Holbein. L’illustrazione si compone anche della bella antiporta allegorica, dal frontespizio in rosso e nero con vignetta incisa da B. Picard e dalla tavola fuori testo con i ritratti di Erasmo, Thomas More e Holbein in medaglione entro elegante cornice. Cohen: “inspirées de dessins exécutés à la plume par Holbein sur les marges d'un exemplaire de l'Eloge de la Folie du musée de Bâle.”
