4to, 243x157 mm; full calf binding with blind tooling on cover, gilt title and ornaments at the spine with 5 ribs. Gilt edges. XXXVI, 926, (4), 178. Frontispiece engraved by Illman and sons with the portrait of the author and a fac-simile of his signature. A lot of illustrations engraved on steel by many engravers and drawners. Text on 2 columns within publisher frame. A few pages with signs of foxing. Good copy.

Condition Report

Fine and substantial edition where are collected the works of the famous English playwrite. The works are preceded by an exhaustive author?s biography and a note in the preface of Samuel Johnson, an important English critic and literary English of the 18th century. The work is also enriched by the glossary, from notes of every work and from the memories of Shakespeare written by Reverend William Harness. At the end of the volume there is a supplement of 7 Shakespearian works attributed to him but not included among his works in the editions of the time. These are: The two Noble Kinsmen; The London Prodigal; Thomas Lord Cromwell; Sir John Oldcastle; The Puritan, or the widow of Watling Street; The Yorkshire Tragedy; The Tragedy of Locrine.
