Acquaforte e puntasecca; mm. 125x199. La firma in basso a destra è appena visibile. Incollata su cartoncino agli angoli. Bell’esemplare.

Ai margini di un bosco, due briganti attaccano un uomo vicino a una palma, mentre altri due portano via sua moglie, a sinistra. Russell nel suo catalogo per la mostra del 1983 del lavoro di Lorrain alla National Gallery of Art (Washington), afferma come questo soggetto della rapina dei viaggiatori era popolare tra la fine del XVI e il XVII secolo. Interessante, tuttavia, scoprire che questo argomento non venne esplorato spesso dal Lorrain. Mannocci 1988, 11.V.A; Blum 1923 7.V; Robert-Dumesnil 1835-71 I.12.III.

Condition Report

Etching and drypoint; mm. 125x199. State V/IX. The signature in the lower right is barely visible. Glued to the corners on cardboard. Nice specimen.

At the edge of a wood, two brigands attack a man near a palm tree, while two others take his wife away, to the left. Russell in his catalog for the 1983 exhibition of Lorrain's work at the National Gallery of Art (Washington), states how this subject of traveler robbery was popular between the late 16th and 17th centuries. Interesting, however, to discover that this topic was not explored often by Lorrain.
