Four very animated scenes, taken from works by Saverio Xavier Della Gatta. The famous painter, active in the Neapolitan area between the century. XVIII and the first decades of the XIX, he was a pupil of Giacomo Cestaro in the drawing academy of Naples. He distinguished himself in the revival of typical aspects of life and of the Neapolitan landscape that he reported in refined watercolors and gouaches, in the manner of Ph. Hackeried and P-J. Fly. We note in particular the perfect correspondence with the manner of Saverio Xavier Della Gatta in the scene in which the horse and the dog appear. The horse, portrayed from the back, is almost identical to that of the 1799 guache "Neapolitan costume studies / Neapolitan street Scenes", presented at Christie's OLD MASTERS AND 19th CENTURY ART, 26 oct 2011 (on page 45 of the catalog) . Dogs similar to this in the lithography often appear in Della Gatta's works: in particular a dog with the same build and a black and white spotted coat is in the foreground in the guache entitled “Two men eating macaroni; and A woman playing a tambourine ".
