8vo, 160x98 mm. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena con impressioni a secco ai piatti. Frontespizio inciso e 64 carte non numerate, 27 tavole incise fuori testo. Segn: *4, A-G8, H4. Iniziali ornate, fregi xilografici, carattere tondo e italico. In totale 28 incisioni su rame di Adriaen Collaert. Note di possesso manoscritte al Frontespizio, alla prima pagina e alla fine del libro. Buon esemplare.

Prima edizione, magnificamente figurata. Le incisioni, che raffigurano le torture e le esecuzioni dei primi eremiti agostiniani, sono opera di A. Collaert: l’iscrizione “Adrian. Collaert excud.” compare nella prima tavola dopo *4; altra firma nella Tavola che ritrae “Nicola de Castille” a carta D6. Opera scritta dall'agostiniano vallone G. Maigret, 1573-1633, e dedicata ad Arnoult de Wachtendonck, canonico di Liegi e prevosto di Santen. Adriaen Collaert, 1560 – 1618, di scuola fiamminga, fu incisore e importante editore di Anversa. Esemplare appartenuto a Jean Chapeaville, 1551-1617, vicario di Liegi e inquisitore della Fede, scrittore, autore dell’Imprimatur che approvava la stampa di questo libro: nota di possesso manoscritta ‘Jean Chapeaville Vicaire de Liege’ alla fine del volume.
Sul margine superiore del Frontespizio altra nota manoscritta "a la Congrégation de N.D. à Trèves’; sul margine inferiore ‘Krintinger’.

8vo, 160x98 mm. Contemporary full vellum binding with blind tooling on covers. Engraved titlepage and 64 unnumbered leaves. 27 engraved plates o.t. Collation: *4, A-G8, H4. Adorned initials, woodcut ornaments, round and italic type. In total 28 copper engravings by Adriaen Collaert. Handwritten notes on titlepage, on first leaf and at the end of the volume. Good specimen.

First edition, beautifully illustrated. The engravings, depicting the tortures and executions of the early Augustinian hermits, are by A. Collaert: the inscription 'Adrian. Collaert excud.“ appears in the first panel after *4; another signature in the panel depicting 'Nicola de Castille” on paper D6. Work written by the Walloonian Augustinian G. Maigret, 1573-1633, and dedicated to Arnoult de Wachtendonck, canon of Liège and provost of Santen. Adriaen Collaert, 1560 - 1618, of the Flemish school, was an engraver and important publisher in Antwerp. Specimen belonged to Jean Chapeaville, 1551-1617, Vicar of Liège and Inquisitor of the Faith, writer, author of the Imprimatur approving the printing of this book: handwritten possession note “Jean Chapeaville Vicaire de Liège” at the end of the volume.
In the upper margin of the title page another handwritten note “a la Congrégation de N.D. à Trèves”; in the lower margin “Krintinger”.
