In 8vo, 165x107 mm. Legatura coeva piena pergamena, unghie. Pagine [16], 566 [i.e. 582], [34]. Marca tipografica al Frontespizio, Iniziali e fregi xilografici, carattere corsivo e romano. Difetti alla legatura, buon esemplare. 

Rara edizione ampliata di questo celebre libro di segreti. Lemnius, allievo di Vesalio e Gesner, raccoglie in questo libro diversi problemi medici e dietetici, cercando di unire l'antica saggezza sia con la nuova scienza che con la dottrina cristiana. Il suo libro di segreti, incredibilmente popolare e mirato alla salute del corpo e della mente, fu pubblicato per la prima volta ad Anversa nel 1559 e immediatamente ristampato e tradotto in numerose edizioni ampliate, ad uso sia di medici professionisti che di laici. 
Questa edizione è la ristampa con alcune aggiunte di "Occulta naturae miracula" pubblicata da Plantin nel 1567, a sua volta un'edizione ampliata del "De occultis naturae miraculis libri II", pubblicato per la prima volta da Guilielmus Simon ad Anversa nel 1559. 
Sebbene Lemnio fosse un fervente cattolico, il suo libro finì all'Indice, rendendo necessaria l'espurgazione di passaggi relativi alla procreazione, alle autorità protestanti (come Gesner) e alle superstizioni, al fine di soddisfare gli standard della censura.

Rare enlarged edition of this famous book of secrets. Lemnius, a student of Vesalius and Gesner, collects in this book various medical and dietary problems, trying to unite the ancient wisdom with both the new science and the Christian doctrine. His incredibly popular book of secrets aimed at the health of the body and mind was first published in Antwerp in 1559, and immediately reprinted and translated in many expanded editions for use by professional physicians and laypeople alike. This edition is a reprint with some additions of Plantin's Occulta naturae miracula, published in 1567, itself an expanded edition of De occultis naturae miraculis libri II, first published by Guilielmus Simon in Antwerp in 1559
Although Lemnius was a devout Catholic, his book ended up on the Index, requiring expurgation of passages relating to procreation, Protestant authorities (such as Gesner), and superstitions in order to meet the standards of the censors.
