Amsterdam, Joss de Bosscher, fine XVI secolo

Cinque incisioni su carta vergellata di ca. 114x127 mm. Rifilate sull’impronta del rame. Sotto l’immagine una legenda esplicativa in latino. In basso a sinistra dell’incisione n. 1, la firma dell’editore “Joos de Bosscher excud”. Timbro in inchiostro di vecchio possessore al verso. Buone condizioni.

Rarissima serie di incisioni allegoriche. Due stampe riguardano il Tempo nella vita dell’uomo, con l’infanzia e la vecchiaia; tre raffigurano i Sensi: Odoratus, Gustus, Tactus.
Joss de Bosscher, fu editore ad Amsterdam, dove risulta residente nel 1587; morì nel settembre 1591. Pubblicò incisioni di Jacques de Gheyn II su disegni di Karel van Mander tra il 1588 e il 1591; molte sue lastre compaiono nell'inventario di Cornelis Claesz.

Five engravings on laid paper, each approximately 114 x 127 mm. Trimmed on the platemark. Under the image an explanatory legend in Latin. At the bottom left of engraving no. 1, the publisher's signature ‘Joos de Bosscher excud’. Old owner's ink stamp on verso. Good condition.

Very rare series of allegorical engravings. Two prints concern Time in the life of man, with childhood and old age; three depict the Senses, Odoratus, Gustus, Tactus.
Joss de Bosscher, was a publisher in Amsterdam, where he was resident in 1587; he died in September 1591. He published engravings by Jacques de Gheyn II from drawings by Karel van Mander between 1588 and 1591; many of his plates appear in the inventory of Cornelis Claesz.
