4 Parti in 2 volumi in-Folio. 420 x 275 mm. Legatura coeva in vitello fulvo, al centro dei piatti medaglione in oro a motivi intrecciati, dorso a nervi riccamente decorato con titoli e numero di volume in oro.
Vol 1: Carte [20, compreso Frontespizio], Carta dell’Africa su doppia pagina, carte 1-148, Carta dell’Asia su doppia pagina, carte 14-467, 1 bianca, [12 con le ‘Tables’]. 
Segnatura: a-8 (a6 bianca) e-6, i-2, '4. Carta dell'Africa a-z. A6, 84. Carta dell'Asia. D-Z, as-°Z' AA HH6, I1-8 (ultima bianca). Indice a8 -e6. 
Vol 2: Carte [8, compreso Frontespizio], Carta dell’Europa su doppia pagina, carte 469-939 (mal numerata 936), Carta dell’America su doppia pagina, carte 903-1025 (ma 941-1063), 1 bianca, [17, con le ‘Tables’], 1 bianca.

In totale 262 xilografie nel testo, di cui 74 figure di medaglie, e 4 carte geografiche su doppia pagina con i Quattro Continenti, in Primo Stato. 

Rarissima Prima Edizione, esemplare in Prima Tiratura. Le carte non recano il titolo nel margine superiore, aggiunto negli Stati successivi. Nella seconda tiratura fu anche aggiunto il ritratto dell’Autore nella carta bianca a6 del primo volume. 
Importantissimo libro di viaggio, scritto dal monaco francescano, viaggiatore ed esploratore, che pubblica il resoconto dei suoi viaggi e racconta le sue esperienze, soprattutto nel Nuovo Mondo. 
L'opera è divisa in quattro parti, ciascuna dedicata alle quattro parti del mondo. Ogni sezione è introdotta da una mappa incisa a doppia pagina, che fornisce così una cartografia dettagliata come preambolo. Il Volume 1 è dedicato all'Africa (ff. 1-148) e all'Asia (ff. 149-467), mentre il Volume 2 esplora l'Europa (ff. 469-914, 912-936 cap. mal.) e l'America (ff. 903-1025). Le grandi xilografie che adornano il testo sono notevoli: riguardano la storia naturale, animali fantastici ed etnografia; i costumi, le scene di genere, gli indigeni che cacciano o pescano, le cerimonie, le piante e gli animali esotici sono molto realistici.
La parte più importante, dedicata al Nuovo Mondo, fornisce la descrizione più dettagliata pubblicata fino ad oggi. Il libro XXI tratta del Brasile, il XXII del Perù, delle Indie Occidentali e del Messico e il XXIII della Florida, del Canada e delle Azzorre.
Particolarmente importante la Carta dell’America: sebbene la geografia della mappa derivi principalmente da quella di Ortelius, Thevet, nel testo di accompagnamento, afferma di aver basato la sua mappa dell'America su osservazioni personali. La mappa contiene alcune informazioni interessanti non presenti in altre mappe dell'epoca: Thevet ha aggiunto toponimi lungo la costa nord-orientale del Nord America; la rappresentazione del Sud America sud-occidentale è una sorta di compromesso tra le mappe che mostrano la curvatura del Cile, rappresentata per la prima volta da Mercatore nel 1569, e le mappe successive che la corressero, per la prima volta da Ortelius nel 1570.
Tre delle xilografie sono firmate con il monogramma di Jean Rabel, due con quello di Jean de Gourmont e altre due con il monogramma CVS di Christoffel van Sichem il vecchio. La scena della macellazione della balena reca l'iniziale D. e 3 tavole del volume II - l'ananas, il manihot e l'uccello “maroli” - sono firmate con una croce di Lorena, un marchio talvolta attribuito a Claude Woeriot (Brun). 
L'iscrizione <<PI/RAFEUS>> sull'obelisco nella veduta delle Antichità di Atene è stata letta da Jean Adhemar come la firma dell'incisore fiammingo Pierre Raefe. Il ritratto di Enrico II è di Etienne Delaune.

Very rare First Edition in the first issue. The leaves do not bear the title in the upper margin, which was added in later editions. In the second issue the portrait of the Author was also added in the blank paper a6 of the first volume. 
A very important travel book, written by the Franciscan monk, traveller and explorer, who published the account of his journeys and recounted his experiences, especially in the New World. 
The work is divided into four parts, each dedicated to the four parts of the world. 
Each section is introduced by a double-page engraved map, thus providing detailed cartography as introduction. Volume 1 is devoted to Africa (leaves 1-148) and Asia (leaves 149-467), while Volume 2 explores Europe (leaves 469-914, 912-936 ch. mal.) and America (leaves 903-1025). The large woodcuts that decorate the text are remarkable: they cover natural history, fantastic animals and ethnography; the costumes, genre scenes, natives hunting or fishing, ceremonies, plants and exotic animals are very realistic.
The most important part, devoted to the New World, provides the most detailed description published to date. Book XXI deals with Brazil, XXII with Peru, the West Indies and Mexico and XXIII with Florida, Canada and the Azores.
The Map of America is particularly important: although the map's geography is mainly derived from that of Ortelius, Thevet states in the accompanying text that he based his map of America on personal observations. The map contains some interesting information not found in other maps of the time: Thevet added toponyms along the north-eastern coast of North America; the depiction of south-western South America is a kind of compromise between the maps showing the curvature of Chile, first depicted by Mercator in 1569, and the later maps that ran along it, first by Ortelius in 1570.
Three of the woodcuts are signed with the monogram of Jean Rabel, two with that of Jean de Gourmont and two others with the monogram CVS of Christoffel van Sichem the Elder. The whale slaughter scene bears the initial D. and three plates in volume II - the pineapple, the manihot and the “maroli” bird - are signed with a Lorraine cross, a device sometimes attributed to Claude Woeriot (Brun). 
The inscription <<PI/RAFEUS>> on the obelisk in the view of the Antiquities of Athens was read by Jean Adhemar as the signature of the Flemish engraver Pierre Raefe. The portrait of Henry II is by Etienne Delaune.
