8vo; 200x155 mm. 4 pagine manoscritte in inchiostro bruno. Sul retro intestazione della lettera con luogo e data e ceralacca. Piccola mancanza al margine della terza pagina con leggera perdita di testo. Per il resto buon esemplare.

Joseph Jean de Thomas, terzo conte di Thomas de Saint-Laurent (1787), signore de Saint-Laurent La Vernède e di La Bastide-d'Engras (1787), fu un tenente della marina francese che partecipò alla Campagna d'America come parte dello squadrone del Comte d'Estaing.
All’epoca di questa lettera era aiutante maggiore del 6° Squadrone a bordo della Fregata del Re La Vestales, nel porto di Cap Français, Santo Domingo.
Egli descrive come dal suo arrivo a Santo Domingo egli soffra crudelmente “per un carbonchio che gli è arrivato alla mano destra”. Ha appena fatto visita a M. de Ponseyrol, comandante dell'artiglieria e apprende che la sua barca stava per partire per Port-de-Paix “étant actuellement destiné à la station de cette rade”.

8vo; 200x155 mm. Four handwritten pages in brown ink. Heading with place, date and wax seal on rear. Small loss on margin of the third page with small lacking text. Good copy afterall.

Joseph Jean de Thomas, 3rd Count of Thomas de Saint-Laurent (1787), Lord of Saint-Laurent La Vernède and La Bastide-d'Engras (1787), was a French naval lieutenant who participated in the American Campaign as part of Comte d'Estaing's squadron.
At the time of this letter he was Adjutant Major of the 6th Squadron aboard the King's Frigate La Vestales in the port of Cap Français, Santo Domingo.
He describes how since his arrival in Santo Domingo he has been suffering cruelly “from an anthrax that has reached his right hand”. He has just visited M. de Ponseyrol, commander of the artillery, and learns that his boat was about to leave for Port-de-Paix 'étant actuellement destiné à la station de cette rade'.
