4to. 230x180 mm. Legatura in pergamena rigida, fogli di guardia moderni, traccia di tassello al dorso, tagli a spruzzo. Pagine [40], 309, [3, errata, Colophon, 1 bianca]. Carattere corsivo, gotico, romano. Marca tipografica di Tampach al Frontespizio, al Colophon grande marca di Brahe con motto, indirizzo “Uraniburgi Ex Officinâ Typographicâ” e data 1596. Ritratto inciso in rame fuori testo prima della Dedica. Nel testo 3 Tavole/diagrammi nel testo, cinque xilografie dell’Osservatorio di Brahe, di cui 2 a piena pagina, a pagina 264 una mappa dell’Isola ‘Hven’, tutto impresso in xilografia. Nella carta di guardia firma ‘F. R. Friis’ con data 1910. 

Edizione originale, terza tiratura. Il volume contiene la corrispondenza negli anni 1585-1595 fra Tycho Brahe, il langravio Guglielmo IV d'Assia e l'astronomo Christoph Rothmann. Questa corrispondenza riguarda tutti gli aspetti dell'astronomia del tempo: strumenti e metodi di osservazione, comete e aurore; con l’interessante disputa sul sistema eliocentrico di Copernico, che Rothmann sosteneva contro il sistema di Tycho. Brahe aveva visitato Guglielmo a Kassel nel 1575 e aveva favorevolmente impressionato il Langravio, la cui raccomandazione potrebbe aver spinto Re Federico II di Danimarca a offrire a Brahe l'isola di Ven come sito per un osservatorio. In appendice è riportata la descrizione dell'osservatorio di Uraniborg – sede delle "ultime osservazioni pre-telescopiche" (Dibner) – illustrata con xilografie: una veduta della facciata, due vedute a volo d'uccello e due planimetrie; inoltre una mappa dell'isola di Hven che sarebbe stata riutilizzata nell'Astronomiae instauratae mechanica del 1598. 
Questa terza ristampa fu pubblicata da Godefried Tampach, libraio di Francoforte, che rinnovò solo il frontespizio con la data 1610, ristampò le tre pagine preparatorie e aggiunse un bellissimo ritratto di Tycho Brahe all'età di quarant'anni, inciso in rame.
Thesaurus: “When Tycho Brahe left Dennmark in 1597, the remains of the printed sheets went with him. After his death his heirs sold these to the bookseller and engraver Levin Hülsius of Nürnberg. He printed a new title page, some preliminary leaves and published the book again in 1601. When Hülsius died, the remaining sheets were turned over to the bookseller Gotfried Tampach. Once more, a new title page and the sheets which were out of print, were reprinted, and the book was once more issued in Frankfurt 1610.”

4to. 230x180 mm. Stiff vellum binding, modern endpapers, trace of label on spine, sprayed edges. Pp. [40], 309, [3, errata, Colophon, 1 blank]. Italic, gothic and roman types. Tampach’s printer’s device on titlepage, on colophon large Brahe device with motto, address “Uraniburgi Ex Officinâ Typographicâ” and date 1596. Engraved portrait before Dedication. In the text 3 plates/diagrams in the text. 5 woodcuts of of Brahe Observatory, 2 of which are full-page, on page 264 a map of ‘Hven’ Island, all woodcut engravings. In the end paper signature 'F. R. Friis' with date 1910.

First edition, third issue. This volume contains correspondence during the years 1585-1595 between Tycho Brahe, Landgrave Wilhelm IV of Hesse and astronomer Christoph Rothmann. This correspondence covers all aspects of astronomy at the time: instruments and methods of observation, comets and auroras; with the interesting dispute over Copernicus' heliocentric system, which Rothmann argued against Tycho's system. Brahe had visited William in Kassel in 1575 and favorably impressed the Landgrave, whose recommendation may have prompted King Frederick II of Denmark to offer Brahe the island of Ven as a site for an observatory. The appendix contains a description of the observatory at Uraniborg - the site of the "last pre-telescopic observations" (Dibner) - illustrated with woodcuts: a view of the facade, two bird's-eye views and two plans; also a map of the island of Hven that would be reused in the Astronomiae instauratae mechanica of 1598. 
This third issue was published by Godefried Tampach, a bookseller in Frankfurt, who renewed only the title page with the date 1610, reprinted the three preparatory pages and added a beautiful copper-engraved portrait of Tycho Brahe at the age of forty.
