Importante lotto di documenti originali manoscritti. I Rivet appartenevano a una famiglia di facoltosi armatori: divenuti molto ricchi nel XVIII secolo con la tratta degli schiavi dall’ Africa all’America, avevano diversificato i loro affari nella prima metà del XIX secolo, con il commercio dal Sud America, importando in Francia rame, cotone, salnitro e zucchero. Si erano estesi anche nel ramo degli investimenti finanziari e, da quanto si ricava da questo carteggio, nella raffinazione dello zucchero. 
Le lettere e i documenti qui presenti forniscono una singolare testimonianza delle diverse attività economiche e commerciale della prima metà del XIX secolo. 
Nel carteggio del 1845 si parla, a partire dalla lettera dell’11 Novembre, dell’acquisto di due cavalli. 
Di particolare interesse la controversia con la Ditta Derosne et Cail: riguarda la raffinazione dello zucchero, negli anni 1844-1846. Un documento su cinque fogli del 1845 contiene un ‘Expose …d’un brevet d’invention’, illustrato in una minuta con molte correzioni; viene menzionato E. Legrand, nome che compare anche in altri documenti e nella prima stesura di una lunga lettera di Aprile-Maggio 1846, anch’essa con molte correzioni, in cui si parla di un ‘nouveau projet’.
La Société Ch. Derosne et Cail era un'impresa francese, (1836-1848) che costruiva locomotive a vapore e zuccherifici. Louis Charles Derosne, 1789-1846, farmacista, chimico e industriale francese, fu uno dei primi in Francia a produrre zucchero di barbabietola nel 1811.
La raccolta è così composta: 1835 (23 documenti); 1836 (21 documenti); 1843 (4 documenti); 1844 (8 documenti); 1845 (33 documenti); 1846 (44 documenti).

Marseille 1835 - 1846

Important lot of original handwritten documents. The Rivets belonged to a family of wealthy shipowners. Having become very wealthy in the 18th century through the slave trade from Africa to America, they had diversified their business in the first half of the 19th century with trade from South America, importing copper, cotton, saltpeter, and sugar to France. They had also expanded into financial investments and, from what this correspondence reveals, sugar refining.
The letters and documents present here provide unique evidence of the diverse economic and commercial activities of the first half of the 19th century.
The 1845 correspondence, beginning with the letter of November 11th, mentions the purchase of two horses.
Of particular interest is the dispute with the Derosne et Cail firm: it concerns sugar refining in the years 1844–1846. A five-sheet document from 1845 contains an "Expose … d'un brevet d'invention," illustrated in a draft with many corrections; E. Legrand is mentioned, a name that also appears in other documents and in the first draft of a long letter from April–May 1846, also with many corrections, which speaks of a "nouveau projet."
The Société Ch. Derosne et Cail was a French company (1836–1848) that built steam locomotives and sugar mills. Louis Charles Derosne, 1789–1846, a French pharmacist, chemist, and industrialist, was one of the first in France to produce beet sugar in 1811.
The collection is composed as follows: 1835 (23 documents); 1836 (21 documents); 1843 (4 documents); 1844 (8 documents); 1845 (33 documents); 1846 (44 documents).
