Rara prima edizione. Il documento riguarda la censura nei confronti della monumentale opera ‘Histoire du peuple de Dieu’ scritta dal Padre gesuita Isaac-Joseph Berruyer, 1681-1758. L'opera era stata condannata dal vescovo di Montpellier nel 1731 e la prima parte era stata inserita nell’Index Librorum Prohibitorum nel 1732. Fontana: “Berruyer parla della Bibbia col registro lieve del romanzo: ciò non è consono allo stile solenne, grave, della Scrittura. Un’accusa che emerge, tra quelle che gli vengono mosse, si potrebbe chiamare rigiudaicizzazione della Scrittura.” Nell’Arrest, infatti, si dichiara “… son Ouvrage a paru dégrader la majesté de l'Ecriture, en altérer la simplecité…“. La Corte del Parlamento, infine, sarà indulgente nei confronti dell’anziano e malato Padre gesuita ‘Attendu l’etat d’infirmité ou il se trouve’-

Large 4to; 270 x 210 mm. 4 pages. Good copy with wide margins.

Rare first edition. The document concerns the censorship of the monumental work 'Histoire du peuple de Dieu' written by Jesuit Father Isaac-Joseph Berruyer, 1681-1758. The work had been condemned by the Bishop of Montpellier in 1731, and the first part had been included in the Index Librorum Prohibitorum in 1732. Fontana: "Berruyer speaks of the Bible in the light register of the novel: this is not in keeping with the solemn, grave style of Scripture. One accusation that stands out, among those leveled against him, could be called the re-Judaicization of Scripture." In the Arrest, in fact, he declares “… son Ouvrage a paru dégrader la majesté de l'Ecriture, en altérer la simplecité... ". The Court of Parliament, finally, will be indulgent towards the elderly and ailing Jesuit Father: "Attendu l'etat d'infirmité ou il se trouve".
