Prima edizione latina del primo libro di Albrecht Dürer sulla teoria dell'arte, l'Unterweisung der Messung. Traduzione in latino del Camerarius. Illustrato dallo stesso Dürer, l'Institutionum Geometricarum delinea la teoria dell'artista sull'"opera d'arte come oggetto naturale", che divenne un dogma estetico accettato fino al XIX secolo. 
Quest’opera sulle istituzioni geometriche è il primo degli scritti di Dürer sulla teoria dell'arte, ove egli spiega l’applicazione della geometria al disegno e alla pittura e insegna i principi della prospettiva; questi metodi sono da applicare all’architettura, alla pittura, all’arte tipografica e in generale a tutte le forme ornamentali. Il libro è dunque rivolto agli artisti ma anche agli scultori, architetti, orafi, scalpellini e altri artigiani. Per spiegare i complessi simboli matematici ai lettori tedeschi, Dürer ha dovuto inventare tanti nuovi termini matematici, e quindi ha influenzato anche la prosa scientifica tedesca. L’opera è magnificamente figurata con esempi che illustrano e rendono più comprensibile il testo: di particolare rilievo la parte che riguarda la costituzione delle lettere dell’alfabeto, di grande interesse per l’arte tipografica.

First Latin edition of Albrecht Dürer’s first book on art theory, "Unterweisung der Messung". Latin translation by Camerarius. Illustrated by Dürer himself, "Institutionum Geometricarum" sets out the artist’s theory of the ‘work of art as a natural object’, which became an accepted aesthetic dogma until the 19th century. 
This work on geometric institutions is the first of Dürer’s writings on art theory, in which he explains the application of geometry to drawing and painting and teaches the principles of perspective; these methods are to be applied to architecture, painting, typography and, in general, to all ornamental forms. The book is therefore aimed at artists, but also at sculptors, architects, goldsmiths, stonemasons and other craftsmen. To explain the complex mathematical symbols to German readers, Dürer had to invent many new mathematical terms, thereby also influencing German scientific prose. The work is magnificently illustrated with examples that clarify and make the text more accessible: of particular note is the section concerning the construction of the letters of the alphabet, which is of great interest to the art of typography.
