Un affascinante panorama di Mauritsstaad con una vista in primo piano dei mercanti europei che commerciano con i nativi. La città prende il nome dal governatore Johann Maurits van Nassau-Siegen. La vista raffigura l’attuale città brasiliana Recife, l’allora capitale del Brasile olandese. Mappa tratta dall’opera: “De nieuwe en onbekende weereld”. L’opera fu pubblicata ad Amsterdam nel 1671 da Jacon Meurs.

A charming panorama of Mauritsstaad with a view in the foreground of European merchants trading with the native people. The city was named after Governor Johann Maurits van Nassau-Siegen. The copper engraved view depicts the current Brazilian city Recife, the then capital of Dutch Brazil. Map take from the work: “De nieuwe en onbekende weereld” (Dutch) or “The New and Unknown World” (English). The work was published in Amsterdam in 1671 by Jacon Meurs.
