Prima rara edizione. Fourmont, archeologo francese, visitò per 4 anni l’Egitto e pubblicò questa prima descrizione delle due grandi città situate nel basso Egitto, Heliopolis e Menfi, che l’autore incontrò durante il suo soggiorno. L’autore compie un’accurata descrizione storica e topografica delle due città. Menfi fu la più antica capitale del Sub-Egitto, la cui importanza venne oscurata progressivamente con la fondazione di Alessandria. Heliopolis, invece, era un importante centro religioso, dove sorgeva un tempio nella quale si supponeva che Mosè fosse stato un suo sacerdote e dove si trovava la “fonte della saggezza”. Il nostro esemplare presenta 2 carte di tavola, come presente nella bibliografia di Lorin: Lorin II, 2632. presente anche in Barbiere I, 907.

Rare first edition. Fourmont, a French archaeologist, visited Egypt for 4 years and published this first description of the two great cities located in lower Egypt, Heliopolis and Memphis, which the author met during his stay. The author makes an accurate historical and topographic description of the two cities. Memphis was the oldest capital of Sub-Egypt, whose importance was gradually obscured with the foundation of Alexandria. Heliopolis, on the other hand, was an important religious center, where stood a temple in which Moses was supposed to have been his priest and where the "source of wisdom" was found. Our sample presents 2 plates, as present in the bibliography of Lorin: Lorin II, 2632., presente anche in Barbiere I, 907.
