Editio princeps del testo greco originale. Legrand «Livre d'une excessive rareté». Opera redatta dal calligrafo e studioso cretese Angelo Vergezio, comprendente 17 testi del Corpus Hermeticum e 3 passi di opere ermetiche estratti dall'Antologia di Giovanni Stobeo.
Splendida impressione con i caratteri ”grecs du roi” "I Greci del Re" creati dall'ellenista Guillaume Morel per Adrien Turnèbe. Questi caratteri furono incisi da Claude Garamond su disegno dello stesso Ange Vergèce. Il frontespizio reca l’impresa degli stampatori della tipografia del re per il greco, impressa in xilografia.
L’edizione contiene le traduzioni latine dei testi greci, tra cui, nella seconda parte, quella dei primi 14 testi del Corpus Hermeticum, redatta da Marsilio Ficino.
La filosofia ermetica informò un ampio spettro dell'umanesimo rinascimentale e la sua influenza è stata rintracciata in opere tanto diverse quanto la fisica di Newton e gli scritti di Shakespeare, Sidney e Spenser. Solo nel XVII secolo Isaac Casaubon dimostrò che il Corpus Hermeticum era stato scritto nel II-III secolo d.C. in Egitto, probabilmente da egiziani di formazione greca, e non da un singolo teologo Prisco.

Legatura in stile XVII secolo, Marocchino rosso, dorso con decorazione a scomparti e motivi floreali e titolo verde, dentelle in oro che incornicia i Piatti, labbri decorate, tagli in blu. Pagine [8, la seconda bianca], 103, 1 bianca, 126, 2 bianche. Colophon in fine. Marca tipografica sul Frontespizio, Testo in greco e latino. Il nome del traduttore Marsilio Ficino compare a c. A1r. Rigatura con inchiostro bruno in tutte le pagine. Ottimo stato di conservazione, esemplare in magnifica legatura in marocchino.

Editio Princeps of the original Greek text. Legrand “Livre d'une excessive rareté” (A book of excessive rarity). Work compiled by the Cretan calligrapher and scholar Angelo Vergezio, comprising 17 texts from the Corpus Hermeticum and 3 passages from Hermetic works extracted from the Anthology of John Stobaeus.
A splendid impression with the “grecs du roi” type created by the Hellenist Guillaume Morel for Adrien Turnèbe. These characters were engraved by Claude Garamond based on a design by Ange Vergèce himself. The titlepage bears the woodcut emblem of the king's printers for Greek: it depicts a pike entwined with a basilisk with a salamander's head and an olive branch, together with the Greek motto meaning “to the good king and the great warrior.”
The edition contains Latin translations of the Greek texts, including, in the second part, the first 14 texts of the Corpus Hermeticum, edited by Marsilio Ficino.
Hermetic philosophy informed a broad spectrum of Renaissance humanism, and its influence has been traced in works as diverse as Newton's physics and the writings of Shakespeare, Sidney, and Spenser. It was not until the 17th century that Isaac Casaubon demonstrated that the Corpus Hermeticum had been written in the 2nd-3rd century AD in Egypt, probably by Egyptians of Greek education, and not by a single theologian named Priscus.

Printer's device on the title page, text in Greek and Latin. The name of the translator Marsilio Ficino appears on leaf A1r. Brown ink lines on all pages. Excellent condition, magnificent copy bound in morocco leather.
