ERIZZO, Nicolò. Capitoli da osservarsi nelli Lazaretti.
Brescia, Policreto Turlino, XXIV febraro 1713
Extremely rare first edition. An important memorandum on the rules to be observed within the lazarettos, based on the provisions of Nicolò Erizzo (1661-1738), who held the office of Health Superintendent beyond the Mincio River from January 8 to November 16, 1713. The plague affected the Austrian states and Switzerland, and Erizzo's task was to prevent communication with those countries. In this ordinance, he meticulously lists all the precautions to be taken and all the rules to be followed to ensure the effectiveness of the quarantine established for people, animals, and goods. He also prescribed that precise reports be drawn up on infections, illnesses, deaths, and recoveries. His dedication to the task was exemplary, as evidenced by his correspondence with the Senate containing news and lists of deaths and illnesses from Vienna, Prague, and other regions of the Empire, preserved in the State Archives of Venice.
