Fondamentale trattato sull’arte della predicazione. Vincent Houdry, 1631 – 1729, gesuita, fu importante scrittore di opere ascetiche. Questa imponente opera enciclopedica consiste in un'ambiziosa raccolta di materiali, in ordine alfabetico, per predicatori, che egli stesso definì una "biblioteca", e che fu pubblicata inizialmente in francese tra il 1712 e il 1725. Nella corposa introduzione nel primo volume, Houdry espone la sua teoria sulle funzioni del predicatore e critica lo stile di predicazione in voga all'epoca. L’introduzione è divisa in due parti: ‘De hodierna concionandi ratione’ (Sulla maniera di predicare di questa epoca); ‘De ratione imitandi notae melioris Concionatores’ (Sulla maniera di imitare i buoni Predicatori).

Fundamental treatise on the art of preaching. Vincent Houdry, 1631–1729, a Jesuit, was a prominent writer of ascetic works. This impressive encyclopedic work consists of an ambitious collection of materials, arranged alphabetically, for preachers, which he himself called a "library," and was initially published in French between 1712 and 1725. In the substantial introduction to the first volume, Houdry expounds his theory on the functions of the preacher and criticizes the preaching style in vogue at the time. The introduction is divided into two parts: "De hodierna concionandi ratione" (On the manner of preaching in this age) and "De ratione imitandi notae melioris Concionatores" (On the manner of imitating good preachers).
