[POZZI, Rocco - FOSCHINI, Antonio]. Descrizione delle feste celebrate dalla fedelissima città di Napoli per lo glorioso ritorno dalla impresa di Sicilia della sacra maestà Carlo di Borbone Re di Napoli.
Napoli, Felice Mosca, 1735
Very rare holiday book, beautifully illustrated. First edition. The three days of celebrations are described, organized by the Master of Ceremonies Don Girolamo Trutta, to celebrate the return of Charles of Bourbon, king of Naples and Sicily, from a journey through his kingdom. Theatricals, music and dances as well as fire-and waterworks were staged, and the elaborate pier for his disembarkation was built by the royal engineer Niccolò Tagliacozzi Canale. The large vignette on the Titlepage is engraved by Rocco Pozzi based afterMichele Foschini, the two large folded plates are engraved by Bartolomeo De Grado and Antonio Baldi based on a design by Niccolò Tagliacozzi Canale: one illustrates the pomp surrounding his arrival by sea, while the second shows the series of porticoes ending in a triumphal arch erected for the occasion on the front of the royal palace. British Museum: “including a title-page with an image after Roccus Pozzi; a head-piece with two putti and an historiated initial showing Heracles; two large folded plates after Nicolo Tagliacozzi Canale, one of the decorated pier on the disembarkation at Naples of Charles de Bourbon and the other recording the set-piece built in front of the Royal palace of Naples in honour of the return of the King.”
