Rara opera magnificamente figurata. Illustrata con circa 1870 tavole litografiche a colori, molte su doppia pagina o ripiegate. Le litografie sono sapientemente rifinite a mano con colori vividi e luminosi. Le tavole, incise da celebri vari autori, sono in buono stato di conservazione, grazie alla protezione delle veline originali. Le illustrazioni della "Flore de Serres" raffigurano fiori e piante in vendita presso il vivaio Van Houtte. Oltre ad alberi, piante e fiori, sia terrestri che acquatici, le tavole rappresentano anche acquari, serre, giardini, fontane, animali, attrezzi da giardino, ecc. 
Nell’ampio testo descrittivo, ogni voce è corredata da una lunga nota esplicativa scientifica, frutto della grande abilità artistica e intellettuale dei vari curatori della rivista, tra cui Charles Lemaire, botanico e incisore francese per Redouté, e il botanico e tassonomista tedesco Michael Scheidweiler.

22 Volumi in 8vo grande. 245x160 mm. Legature editoriali in cartonato con impressioni a secco, titoli e fregi in oro sui dorsi. Gli ultimi 8 volumi, con differente legatura. Circa 1870 tavole fuori testo, molte su doppia pagina, impresse in litografia e colorate a mano, protette da veline originali. Set di 22 volumi di una delle più raffinate riviste di orticoltura della metà del XIX secolo; il volume 23 è uscito qualche anno dopo. Ex libris ‘Van den Borre’ incollato al contropiatto. Volume 5 con qualche strappo ad alcune tavole ripiegate, lievi sporadiche fioriture, buon esemplare.

A rare, magnificently illustrated work. Illustrated with approximately 1870 color lithographic plates, many on double-page or folded. The lithographs are expertly hand-finished with rich, luminous, vivid colors, The plates, engraved by various famous authors, are in excellent condition, protected by their original tissue guard. The illustrations of the "Flore de Serres" depict flowers and plants for sale in the Van Houtte nursery. Piece by piece examples of the ultimate craftmanship of the Belgian lithographers at the time. Beside trees, plants and flowers, both terrestrial and aquatic, the plates also represent aquariums, greenhouses, gardens, fountains, animals, garden tools, etc. 
In the extensive descriptive text, each entry is accompanied by a long scientific explanatory note, the result of the great artistic and intellectual skill of the magazine's various editors, including Charles Lemaire, a French botanist and engraver for Redouté, and the German botanist and taxonomist Michael Scheidweiler.

22 volumes in large 8vo. 245 x 160 mm. Cardboard binding with blind tooling, gilt titles and decorations on the spines. The last 8 volumes have a different binding. Approximately 1870 lithographic plates, many on double pages, colored by hand, protected by original tissue guard. Set of 22 volumes of one of the finest horticultural journals of the mid-19th century. Volume 23 was published a few years later. ‘Van den Borre’ bookplate glued to the inside cover. Volume 5 has some tears to some folded plates, minor foxing, a good copy.
