SANMICHELI, Michele - POMPEI, Alessandro. Li cinque ordini dell'architettura civile di Michel Sanmicheli rilevati dalle sue fabriche, e descritti e publicati con quelli di Vitruvio, Alberti, Palladio, Scamozzi, Serlio, e Vignola dal co. Alessandro Pompei.
In Verona, per Jacopo Vallarsi, 1735
First edition of this rare architectural work. The volume illustrates the architecture of civil buildings constructed and designed by Michele Sanmicheli, one of the most important and relevant architects active between the 15th and 16th centuries. He devoted himself to civil and ecclesiastical architecture, and served as a military architect-engineer for the restoration and fortification of papal fortresses.
The author, Alessandro Pompei, compares the Veronese artist's treatment of the five architectural orders with that of major treatise writers. The plates are signed Alessandro Pompei and are drawn directly from surveys of Sanmicheli's buildings.
