A rare 16th-century edition of Diogenes Laertius's Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers, including the Greek text with a Latin translation and annotations by Tommaso Aldobrandini. This is a significant edition for the study of the tradition of Diogenes Laertius's text.
Tommaso Aldobrandini (1540–1572) was an Italian priest and humanist. He translated Diogenes Laertius's Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers into Latin, a work published posthumously in 1594 by his nephew, Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini.
Folio, 324x220 mm. Later full vellum binding. Gilt title on label on spine. Handwritten bottom edge. Later colored end papers. Pp. [8], 303; 125, [18]. Last blank leaf is missing. Greek and latin text. Slight foxing and brownings.
