POLLINI, Francesco. Tre Suonate per Clavicembalo composte da Francesco Pollini Socio onorario del R. Conservatorio di Musica di Milano.
Milano, Giovanni Ricordi, [1812]
Rare first edition. The musical bequest of Francesco Pollini includes three collections of piano sonatas. The first one is composed for didactic purposes, it is entitled "Tre suonate (!) per clavicembalo, op. 26" and was issued as the second part of Pollini's piano tutor (Metodo per clavicembalo, Milano 1812), while the other two, without indication of opus and year, were published in Paris, both under the title "Deux grandes sonates pour piano forte".
Francesco Pollini, 1762 - 1846, was the most important figure among the pianists active in Italy in the early nineteenth century. His fame as a pianist and composer was second only to that of a teacher. In 1811 he was commissioned by the Milan Conservatory to draw up a method for fortepiano, the first of its kind published in Italy. Printed by Ricordi in 1812, and reprinted in 1834 by the same publisher, the Method addresses the various aspects of the technique and piano performance.
