Prima edizione. Importante trattato sugli orologi solari. Padre Jean Voel (1541-1610) insegnò greco e retorica a Dole, Lione, e presso il collegio gesuita di Tournon, seguendo un curriculum molto tradizionale all'interno della Compagnia di Gesù. In quest'opera, studia la costruzione di vari tipi di meridiane e quadranti, illustrando le sue descrizioni con numerosi diagrammi. Il lavoro tratta anche del funzionamento degli orologi e di alcune questioni di astronomia.

2 parti in un volume in-4to. 205x158 mm. Legatura coeva piena pergamena con unghie, titolo manoscritto sul dorso. Pagine [24], 364, [4], 160, [24]. Sul Frontespizio “1608 … Turnoni Apud Claudium Michaelem, & Thomam Soubron”. La seconda parte comincia a c. a1r con proprio Occhietto “Scholia autoris in eosdem tres, De horologiis libros ...” Bel frontespizio architettonico figurato inciso in rame, testatine, fregi e capilettera figurati xilografici, testo inquadrato da cornice di doppio filetto, carattere romano, corsivo, ebraico e greco, 106 illustrazioni xilografiche. 
Margine inferiore del Frontespizio tagliato, qualche strappo marginale e leggero foxing.

First edition. An important treatise on sundials. Father Jean Voel (1541–1610) taught Greek and rhetoric in Dole, Lyon, and at the Jesuit college in Tournon, following a very traditional curriculum within the Society of Jesus. In this work, he examines the construction of various types of sundials and dials, illustrating his descriptions with numerous diagrams. The work also deals with the functioning of clocks and certain aspects of astronomy.

Two parts in a volume in 4to. 205x158 mm. Contemporary full vellum binding with squares, handwritten title on spine. Pp. [24], 364, [4], 160, [24]. On the titlepage “1608 … Turnoni Apud Claudium Michaelem, & Thomam Soubron”. The second part beginning on leaf a1r with own half title “Scholia autoris in eosdem tres, De horologiis libros ...” Nice engraved architectural title page, woodcut headpieces, decorations and initials, text within double rules frame, roman, italic, hebrew and greek type. 106 woodcut illustrations. Lower margin of the title page is cut, some marginal tears and slight foxing.
