A rare first edition, bound in elegant red morocco leather, of the biography of the Genoese nun Maria Vittoria Fornari Strata, founder of the Order of the Most Holy Annunciation. The work was published to mark her beatification on 21 September 1828 by Pope Leo XII, to whom the work is dedicated.
Large 4to; 245x175 mm. Red morocco binding with gilt borders on the covers, blind-stamped decorations and a floral coat of arms in the centre of the front cover. Pp. [2], VI, 229, [3]. Woodcut coat of arms of the dedicatee, Pope Leo XII, on the title page. The copperplate engraving depicts the Blessed Maria Vittoria Fornari Strata, drawn by Giuseppe Della Valle and engraved by Antonio Banzo. Slight damp to the binding; internally a fine copy.
