NABOD, Valentin [aka Naibod or Naboth]. Enarratio Elementorum Astrologiae.
Cologne, Apud Haeredes Arnoldi Birckmanni, 1560
First edition of this astrological work, based on the writings of al-Qabisi. Al-Qabisi was a famous Arab astrologer, best known for this work on judicial astrology dedicated to the emir of Aleppo, Prince Sayf al-Dawla al-Hamadani. This is Valentinus Naiboda's first edition of al-Qabisi's treatise, published in Cologne. This work is an introductory exposition of some of the fundamental principles of genetlialogy, the astrological science of predicting births, or divining the fate of newborns. Al-Qabisi's work became the authoritative introduction to astrology in Europe between the 13th and 16th centuries. It contains Joanna of Saxony's commentary on al-Qabisi's work, as well as notes by Pietro Turrello. His book is, as its title suggests, an introductory exposition of some of the fundamental principles of the horoscope; Its current usefulness lies mainly in the quotations from al-Andarzghar, al-Kinde, al-Hind, Ptolemy, Dorotheus, Masashallah, Hermes, and Valens.
