Folio piccolo; 270x205 mm. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle e cartonato, angoli, fregi e tit. in oro sul dorso; pp. XXXI, incl. Occhietto e Frontespizio, 1, 411, 1; 51 Tavole numerate inc. in rame in fine. Piccoli difetti alla legatura. Buon esemplare ad ampi margini e in barbe.

Rara prima edizione figurata. Importante opera che descrive gli abiti e i costumi dei popoli antichi: Egiziani, Greci, Persiani, Ebrei, Romani e altri popoli. Nelle 51 tavole, incise in rame da Pieter Martenasie, sono raffigurati con precisione e perizia 160 abiti e accessori d’abbigliamento degli antichi e ornamenti tratti dalla statuaria antica. Cicognara: “Questa è una delle opere più castigate e a cui può riportarsi con più sicurezza fra quante ne esistono in questa materia.” Brunet: “Ouvrage estimé.” Cicognara 1684, ediz. 1785; Brunet, III, 980; Lipperheide 105; Vinet 1812; Colas 1828.

Rare first illustrated edition. Important work that describes the clothes and customs of ancient peoples: Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Jews, Romans and other peoples. In the 51 plates, engraved in copper by Pieter Martenasie, 160 clothes, clothing accessories of the ancients and ornaments taken from ancient statuary are depicted with precision and skill. Cicognara: “Questa è una delle opere più castigate e a cui può riportarsi con più sicurezza fra quante ne esistono in questa materia.” Brunet: “Ouvrage estimé.”

Small folio; 270x205 mm. Contemporary quarter calf binding, squares, gilt title and ornaments on back; pp. XXXI including half-title and titlepage, 1, 411, 1; 51 numbered plates engraved on copper. Slight defects on binding. Good uncut copy with wide margins.
