Rara prima edizione francese. Opera figurata con la mappa di Cipro nell’antiporta allegorica ed episodi della guerra tra Venezia e Turchia illustrati nelle belle Testatine. Atabey: “One of the basic sources for the Turkish conquest of Cyprus in 1572”. È tracciata la storia di Cipro, dal dominio veneziano e alla conquista turca, nel 1571; traduzione dal latino di Louis-Antoine Le Peletier. Cipro rimase sotto il dominio ottomano fino al 1878, quando fu ceduta alla Gran Bretagna come protettorato.

In 4to. 265x200 mm. Legatura coeva in pelle bruna marmorizzata, titolo e fregi in oro al dorso. Antiporta, Pagine [12, compreso il Frontespizio], 414, [2, con Privilegio ed Errata]. Antiporta incisa da Charles Simonneau, con una mappa dell’isola, Frontespizio con grande vignetta incisa, cinque grandi testatine figurate incise e cinque iniziali incise. Piccoli fori di tarlo al margine interno delle carte iniziali, senza intaccare il testo. Legatura con piatti sfregati e leggermente usurati. Piccoli difetti al dorso. Buon esemplare.

Rare first French edition. Illustrated work with a map of Cyprus in the allegorical frontispiece and episodes from the war between Venice and Turkey illustrated in the fine headpieces. Atabey: “One of the basic sources for the Turkish conquest of Cyprus in 1572”. The history of Cyprus is traced from Venetian rule to the Turkish conquest in 1571; translation from Latin by Louis-Antoine Le Peletier. Cyprus remained under Ottoman rule until 1878, when it was ceded to Britain as a protectorate.

In 4to. 265x200 mm. Contemporary full brown marbled leather binding, gilt title and ornaments on spine. Frontispiece, Pp. [12 including title-page] 414, [2, with Privilege and Errata]. Frontispiece engraved by Charles Simonneau, with a map of the island, title-page with engraved vignette, five large engraved head-pieces. Some wormin on the inner margin of some leaves, without loss of text. Rubbed and worn binding, spine with defects. Good copy.
