Pregevole edizione della storia naturale composta da F. A. Pouchet, membro dell’Istituto di Francia, adorna di centinaia di incisioni con soggetti tratti dal mondo animale e vegetale e riproduzioni di strumenti scientifici. Tra i capitoli più curiosi vi sono quelli dedicati a mostri e superstizioni, alle meraviglie dell’organizzazione degli insetti, agli animali definiti infingardi ed assassini.

4to; 301x214 mm; Legatura coeva in mezza tela e cartonato marmorizzato; Titoli e filetti impressi in oro al dorso. Pp. 358 (2); 365 incisioni nel testo. Leggere bruniture, buon esemplare.

A valuable edition of Natural History by F. A. Pouchet, a member of the Institut de France, adorned with hundreds of engravings with subjects from the animal and plant world and reproductions of scientific instruments. Among the most curious chapters are those devoted to monsters and superstitions, the wonders of the organisation of insects, and animals described as deceitful and murderous.

4to; 301x214 mm; Contemporary binding in quarter cloth and marbled hardback; Gilt titles and rules on the spine. Pp. 358 (2); 365 engravings in the text. Slight browning, good copy.
