Serie completa, pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1633, di 18 incisioni originali in raro terzo stato su tre, con numerazione progressiva dei fogli in basso a destra. La serie racconta i tristi eventi che afflissero la Lorena nel 1633 quando i francesi assediarono Nancy. Le tragiche composizioni riflettono lo stato d'animo di un Callot malato, che nei suoi ultimi anni di vita assistette alla tragica fine del suo Paese. L’edizione fu curata da Israel, amico di Callot: nella legenda in basso una poetica descrizione delle scene rappresentate in tre distici in rime baciate. Magnifico esemplare di questa rara e animata suite, uno dei capolavori dell'artista.

18 Incisioni di ca. 84x190 mm. Tavole applicate su cartoncini di supporto con cerniere di carta nel verso del margine superiore. Fogli sciolti entro legatura romantica in 4to oblungo, marocchino verde decorato ai piatti con tre scomparti con impressioni a freddo, filetti e fregi in oro. 
Stato III/III, in basso a sinistra la scritta “Callot inv et fec.” sopra i versi nel margine inferiore e il numero progressivo 1-18 in basso a destra. Sotto l’immagine legenda con sei versi in francese. L’ultima tavola, n. 18, è in IV Stato, con la scritta ‘Callot fecit’ e senza ‘Israel excudit’. La prima tavola con il titolo, rifilato sul margine inferiore, misura 88x190 mm. Buona conservazione, tutte le tavole con i margini.

Complete series, first published in 1633, consisting of 18 original engravings in a rare third state out of three, with sequential sheet numbers in the lower right corner. The series recounts the tragic events that afflicted Lorraine in 1633 when the French laid siege to Nancy. The poignant compositions reflect the state of mind of an ailing Callot, who, in the final years of his life, witnessed the tragic downfall of his country. The edition was edited by Israel, a friend of Callot’s: the caption at the bottom features a poetic description of the scenes depicted in three couplets in rhyming couplets. A magnificent example of this rare and vivid suite, one of the artist’s masterpieces.

18 etchings of approx. 84x190 mm. Plates mounted on backing cardboard with paper hinges on the reverse of the upper margin. Loose sheets bound in a Romantic-style oblong quarto binding, green morocco leather decorated on the covers with three sections with bilnd tooling, gilt rules and ornaments. State III/III, in the lower left corner the inscription “Callot inv et fec.” above the verses in the lower margin and the sequential number 1–18 in the lower right corner. Below the image is a caption consisting of six lines in French. The last plate, no. 18, is in State IV, bearing the inscription “Callot fecit” and lacking “Israel excudit.” The first plate, bearing the title and trimmed at the bottom margin, measures 88x190 mm. In good condition; all plates with their margins.
