La seconda mappa del Brasile di Blaeu. La costa presenta molti dettagli, mentre nell'entroterra altamente congetturale e per lo più vuoto. Orientato con ovest in alto. Dedicato a Christoph Arciszewski von Artischau (1592-1656), nobile polacco e ufficiale al servizio della Compagnia delle Indie Occidentali. Blaeu. Nel 1637 divenne vice governatore del Brasile olandese e capo delle forze militari olandesi in quel paese.
Orientata a ovest verso la parte superiore della stampa, questa mappa generale del Brasile era uno dei primi prodotti dello stesso Joan Blaeu, realizzata dopo che aveva assunto il pieno controllo della casa editrice dopo la morte di suo padre alcuni anni prima.
Una carta importante e precoce del Brasile orientale. Al momento della prima apparizione della mappa nel 1642, gli olandesi stavano attivamente tentando di colonizzare le regioni costiere nord-orientali del Brasile. I tentativi olandesi di fondare un impero in Sud America iniziarono nel 1624 con un attacco a Bahia (Salvador), il porto naturale di Bahia de Todos os Santos. L'attacco non ebbe successo e la [Compagnia delle Indie Olandesi] fece un altro, con successo, tentativo nel 1630, questa volta a Olinda de Pernambuco (Recife) più a nord, vicino al punto più nord-orientale del Brasile.

Blaeu's second map of Brazil. Coastline with many details, while inland highly conjectural and mostly empty. 
Dedicated to Christoph Arciszewski von Artischau (1592-1656), Polish nobleman and officer in the service of the West India Company. Blaeu. In 1637 he became deputy governor of Dutch Brazil and head of the Dutch military forces in that country.
Oriented west to the top of the plate, this general map of Brazil was an early product of Joan Blaeu himself, made after he had assumed full control of the publishing house following the death of his father a few years before.
An important and early chart of eastern Brazil. At the time of the first appearance of the map in 1642, the Dutch were actively attempting to colonise the north-eastern coastal regions of Brazil. Dutch attempts to found an empire in South America began in 1624 with an attack on Bahia (Salvador), the natural harbour at Bahia de Todos os Santos. The attack was unsuccessful, and the [ Netherlands West India Company] made another, succesful, attempt in 1630, this time at Olinda de Pernambuco (Recife) farther north near the north-easternmost point of Brazil.
