Prima e unica edizione Giuntina e prima edizione in 8vo del poema di Lucrezio. A cura di Pier Candido Decembrio, che si avvalse delle correzioni degli umanisti Giovanni Pontano e Michele Marullo. Oltre ai sei libri dell'opera di Lucrezio (divisi idealmente in tre diadi: fisica epicurea, antropologia/anima, cosmologia), contiene una prefazione dedicata a Tommaso Soderini e una breve nota biografica, del curatore, che aggiunge anche un elenco di citazioni alla fine. Questa edizione in piccolo formato risulta molto più comoda per gli studiosi, rispetto alle precedenti edizioni in-folio.

Legatura coeva in pelle di vitello marrone, cornice di triplo filetto e fregio intrecciato impresso a secco, fioroni impressi a secco agli angoli e al centro, dorso con tre nervature in rilievo, tagli lisci. Carte [8], CXXV, [13]. Segn.: A8 a-q8 r¹°. Colophon e Marca tipografica in fine. 30 righe di testo, Iniziali xilografiche, carattere corsivo, romano e Greco. Legatura restaurata, dorso riparato, abile restauro sul margine esterno del Frontespizio, occasionali leggere fioriture.

The first and only Giuntina edition and the first octavo edition of Lucretius’s poem. Edited by Pier Candido Decembrio, who drew on the corrections of the humanists Giovanni Pontano and Michele Marullo. In addition to the six books of Lucretius’s work (ideally divided into three pairs: Epicurean physics, anthropology/the soul, and cosmology), it contains a preface dedicated to Tommaso Soderini and a brief biographical note by the editor, who also includes a list of citations at the end. This edition is much more convenient for scholars than previous folio editions.

Contemporary brown calf binding, with a triple rules border and blind tooling interlaced frieze, blind tooling floral medallions at the corners and center, spine with three raised ridges, smooth edges. Pages [8], CXXV, [13]. Pagination: A8 a-q8 r¹°. Colophon and printer’s device at the end. 30 lines of text, woodcut initials, italic, Roman, and Greek type. Binding restored, spine repaired, skillful restoration on the outer margin of the title page, occasional slight foxing.
