Rara stampa della Calcografia Wagner Questa immagine di un asino che si inginocchia ai piedi di Sant’Antonio ricorda infatti il miracolo del santo avvenuto nel 1223 ed è al centro delle scene Sacre usate per ricordare ai fedeli la centralità dell’Eucarestia. La tradizione vuole infatti che il Santo cercasse di convertire gli eretici in tutte le maniere.
In particolare, si narra che cercò di convertire un eretico invitandolo a credere nella presenza di Dio nell’Eucarestia. Questo eretico sfidò il Santo e disse che se un mulo, a digiuno per tre giorni, avesse distolto lo sguardo dalla biada, anche lui avrebbe creduto. Ciò accadde.

Rare print of the Wagner chalcography. This image of a donkey kneeling at the feet of Saint Anthony recalls the saint's miracle in 1223 and is at the center of the sacred scenes used to remind the faithful of the centrality of the Eucharist. Tradition has it that the Saint tried to convert heretics in all ways.
In particular, it is said that he tried to convert a heretic by inviting him to believe in the presence of God in the Eucharist. This heretic challenged the Saint and said that if a mule, fasting for three days, looked away from the fodder, he too would believe. This happened.
